SHINE
Each session of the course is based on realising each student's potential to SHINE;
- Support-how can you support others? What support do you need?
- aimHigher - What are your main targets and overall goals?
- Independent - how do you intend to be independent as a learner?
- Nuture-how are you going to look after yourself?
- Extend-how are you going to extend your potential to really SHINE?
All in a day's Post 16 Induction course at Leeson House in early September, and it wasn't just the sun that was shining!

SWANAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL GOES POSITIVELY MAD
AT LEESON HOUSE

In other words; Making A Difference to their learning by attending a Positively MAD day at Leeson House in September. The whole of year 6 attended a day of fun team building activities and mind bending challenges delivered by Brightfields.
Sponsored by the charity Unltd the Positively MAD day focused on students' ability to learn in a holistic sense. The students were encouraged to think about the way they live and how this affects their learning skills, from sleep and diet to exercise and support of others. Each session enabled the students to work together to solve problems, be creative and support each other. In groups the children made posters about 'our amazing brain' from material from the Dorset Scrapstore. The students loved dressing up in silly hats and inventing rhyming songs and raps as part of their healthy living campaigns to promote eating, sleeping and exercising well!
Each skill for life came alive at Leeson House. The students were given a healthy lunch and Dorset Cereals kindly donated delicious cereal bars for students to taste. Rather than just being taught exercise is important the students actually took part in exercise by orienteering to decode secret messages. The students also experienced firsthand the effect of telling a classmate how they might support them in lessons; listening, answering questions, working together.
Going MAD got year 6 off to a positively different start at Leeson House!
